A Letter from Ireland:

Have you been to Inis Mhór – the largest of the Aran Islands off County Galway?

Inis Mhor

You might have noticed these memorials at the side of the road. They are known locally as “Leachtaí Cuimhneacháin” and were erected during the 1800s by and for particular families including the Conneelys, McDonaghs, O’Donnells, Fitzpatricks, Mullins’s, Naughtons and the Folens.

  • Peg Patterson says:

Have you seen the movie “The Secret of Roan Inish”? The selkies and dark Irish.

  • Donna Connelly says:

I am the descendant of a Michael Connelly that immigrated from the Aran Islands around 1869 and settled in California. Is there a way to find out more information about the Connelly/Conneely’s? I would love to find relatives still living in the area and connect!
