Céad mÃle fáilte, welcome to your Letter from Ireland “Shorts”. Each Tuesday we’ll bring you a quick-read of some of our favourite and interesting Irish things for this week.
FAVOURITE PLACES IN IRELANDÂ
Ballybunion, County Kerry.
Ballybunion is a scenic, seaside town in county Kerry that is well known for its beaches. For any golfers out there, the Ballybunion Links are worth a visit alone. Check out this archive footage from 1963 to see how much this popular holiday destination has changed over the years.
FEATURED IRISH SURNAMESÂ – The Druids!
Do You Have Celtic Druid Surnames in Your Family Tree? Let’s have a look at some of them – and see if you spot any of your own Irish surnames!
BOOK I’M READING NOW
“Old Ways, Old Secrets” by Jo Kerrigan. If you want to find out more about the rich history and traditions of pagan Ireland, “Old Ways, Old Secrets” explores many of these ancient practices. Click here to see the book on amazon.
IRISH WORD OR PROVERB
“Is fada an bóthar nach bhfuil casadh ann“
Which translates to “Long is the road without bends”.

P.S. Check out the “Gailge Gach Lá” (Irish every day) 1-week challenge by Bitesize Irish. It’s a brilliant way to gently dip your toe into the Irish language.
IRISH CRAFT/PRODUCT WE LOVE
Based in Wicklow, Alphabet Jigsaws creates handcrafted and hand-painted wooden jigsaw puzzles for kids using their own original designs. We particularly love this one containing the counties of Ireland. Great for the kids or grandkids!
